Botox and Wrinkle Relaxers

Botox is a popular cosmetic treatment used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause them. Made from a purified form of botulinum toxin—a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum—Botox helps create a more youthful appearance.

What are neurotoxins/ wrinkle relaxers and how do they work?

Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin are popular cosmetic treatments used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. These injectables are made from purified forms of botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles to create a smoother, more refreshed appearance.

Most commonly used on areas such as the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes, neurotoxins work by blocking the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions—minimizing expression lines over time.

Their popularity has grown significantly due to their quick, minimally invasive nature and natural-looking results. In addition to cosmetic use, neurotoxins are also FDA-approved to treat a range of medical conditions, including chronic migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and muscle spasms.

What to Expect

Before Your Procedure — Pre-Treatment Instructions

To reduce the risk of bleeding and for BTA injections, avoid the following for 2 days prior to treatments:

  • Alcoholic Beverages
  • Anti-inflammatories
  • Aspirin
  • Vitamin E
  • Ginkgo Biloba

During Your Procedure

During your visit, one of our experienced medical professionals will take the time to evaluate your facial features and chat with you about your goals. Together, you’ll create a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your vision—and once you’re happy with the plan, we’ll begin your rejuvenation session! To prepare, we may gently remove a bit of makeup in the treatment area. During the procedure, you might feel a little pinch or mild discomfort from the injections, but most of our clients find it very manageable. While some slight bruising or swelling can occasionally occur, it's usually minimal and temporary. Applying a cold compress afterward can help reduce any swelling and keep you feeling fresh and fabulous. If bruising does happen, it typically fades within a few days to a week. You're in great hands—and we’re here to make sure you leave feeling confident, refreshed, and glowing.

After Your Procedure — Post-Treatment Instructions

We’re so excited for you to start seeing the gorgeous results of your treatment! Keep in mind that it typically takes about 3 to 7 days for BTA to start working its magic, so be patient—by the end of the week, you’ll likely notice smoother skin and a refreshed appearance.

Right after your treatment, you may see a little redness or mild swelling around the injection sites—this is completely normal and usually fades within a day or two. In rare cases, there may be a small amount of bleeding or bruising. If that happens, just apply gentle pressure for 15 minutes and use a cold compress to soothe the area.

To get the best possible results, here are a few quick tips to follow:

  • Stay upright for at least 4 hours (no bending or lying down)
  • Avoid touching, massaging, or scratching the treated areas
  • Lightly exercise the treated muscles every 15 minutes for 4 hours (smiling and raising your eyebrows works great!)
  • Skip makeup for at least 2 hours after your treatment

You're on your way to radiant, youthful results—we’re so happy to be part of your beauty journey!

Frequently Asked Questions

It generally takes 3—7 days before you begin to see the effects of your BTA treatment and the effects will generally last between 3 to 4 months.

BTA is very well tolerated and safe when used for non-invasive cosmetic treatments. There have been reports of problems after BTA treatment, but these have been cases where large doses of BTA were used. (The amount of BTA used for cosmetic purposes is very small). While BTA does “paralyze” the muscles in the face, the effects are temporary and do not usually cause permanent problems.

BTA can be used to treat any wrinkle in the face caused by the muscle actions under the skin. The most common places targeted include the forehead, glabella (“elevens”), around the eyes, and lip lines. It can also be used to raise the eyebrows, raise the corners of the mouth (to make it look like you have more of a smile instead of a frown), and soften the “bands” in your neck.

When injectable products are approved to be used in the United States, the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) lists specific uses for those products. Most injectable products have been “approved” to treat specific areas of the face and list these approved treatment areas on the product label. However, the principle effects of the product may be the same if used elsewhere on the face.

When a product is used on an area of the face not specifically listed on the FDA package insert label, the use of the product is considered “off-label”. For example, Botox Cosmetic® may only be FDA approved to treat the wrinkles in the glabella area (“elevens”), resulting in an elimination or softening of those wrinkles and improved facial appearance. However, injection of Botox Cosmetic® around the eyes may achieve the same cosmetic effect, but has not been officially approved by the FDA for that purpose.

It is acceptable for medical professionals to use the products in an off-label manner in the United States, but you need to be informed and aware that the products are being used in this way.
